about us

FOUNDERS

Ms Phang Sow Yoong (SY) and the late Ms Tham Yew Wai (UY) registered Flexxi Associates Sdn Bhd on 15 May 2001.

They started by organising the Flexxi Networking Tea seminars to reach out to like-minded people.

S.Y. Phang is the co-founder of Flexxi Associates Sdn Bhd and the owner of Word Design Communication, which specialises in corporate publications and training. She has four decades
of remote work experience and is a course designer for corporate training workshops. Her passion is empowering mothers-on-career breaks to keep in touch with the job market in order
to make career comebacks later.

The late Tham Yew Wai

Flexxi co-founder, the late Tham Yew Wai (UY), couldn’t re-enter the job market when her husband passed away. She had lost all her secretarial skills after 20 years of staying at home, so she went into the real estate business instead.

We realise the importance for homemakers to upgrade their skills when something happens in a marriage or to a spouse.

Over the years, we have been experimenting with eco-systems to support job flexibility. This has become even more urgent in view of the Great Resignation of the Covid-19 pandemic.

We hope to collaborate with corporations and business owners to overcome the challenges of remote work.

Note: Flexxi Associates Sdn Bhd was changed to Flexi Associates after UY's demise in 2019.

PASSION

The partners started with a passion for creating business models that would enable mothers-on-career breaks to work flexible hours.

However, the company was dormant until the advent of social media, which enabled the business to take off.

VISION

To make work-life fulfillment achievable.

  • To develop business models that promote work-life balance

  • To create an ecosystem that supports work-life integration

  • To collaborate with companies to promote work flexibility

  • To publicize good practices in work-life fulfillment

mission

It looks like after 40 years of experimenting with work flexibility, I can finally say “Eureka!”

Even before Covid, many mothers were quitting corporate jobs for flexible work options. The Great Resignation is seeing more mothers opting for remote work.

To keep mothers in the workforce—either as freelancers or remote company staff—I hope to implement these ideas:

Co-working and co-childcare hubs
These could be set up in housing estates, condominiums, or even public libraries. A team of mothers run children's programs while others work.

Half-day or flexible schedules

Mothers could work undistracted and spend the rest of the day with their children. Training the children in household chores is useful, especially when mothers return to full-time work later.

Teamwork and backup.

During family emergencies, the workflow can continue with contingency plans and work-from-home arrangements.

Ecosystems that support remote work

The hubs ensure that work is unhindered by pandemics or lockdowns—a smarter way of working!

Less dependency on maids

While industrialization sent women to work outside their homes, the Internet is bringing work back to the home. Communities of mothers can combine work with childcare—just like in the agricultural age!

Learn and earn

Mothers in work-life hubs could benefit from Flexi Associates' network of business owners who are open to new ways of working after the Covid pandemic.

We have identified three locations in Petaling Jaya to set up the "pop-up work-life hubs":

• Subang Jaya (SS19)

• Damansara Perdana

• Dataran Prima

Corporations and business owners are welcome to collaborate with Flexi Associates to make remote and hybrid work highly effective options.
